Dusty Solis began dancing at the age of 2 at the Appletree Christian Academy in Oak Cliff, Texas. She later moved on to study ballet at the Ozsoy School of Ballet in Cedar Hill, TX. At the age of 8, Dusty took a break from dancing and started training in cheerleading and gymnastics all way through college. She continued her passion for dance at the age of 11 with Spotlight Dance Studio competitive squad in Cedar Hill. Growing up, she trained in competitive cheerleading, tumbling, tap, jazz, lyrical and hip hop and began student teaching at the age of 16. She competed on the award-winning studio competition teams with Spotlight Dance Studio and cheered throughout middle school and high school for Cedar Hill ISD. She was also the only student in Cedar Hill history to be on the Varsity Cheerleading Squad her junior year then tryout for an officer position on the drill team her senior year to become 1st Lt. of her national award winning high school drill team, the Cedar Hill Highsteppers.
After graduation, she moved to Denton to attend the University of North Texas where she earned her Bachelors of Science in Health Promotions and a Minor in Dance. There she was a UNT Dancer for three years and was Co-Captain her last year. In 2002 she spent 5 years touring the United States with Marching Auxiliaries Dance as an instructor, private camp instructor/choreographer and competition judge. In 2005, Dusty was able to coach and mentor the National Cheerleading Association Champions Sachse High School Freshman Cheerleading squad to “Top Team” champs of the entire NCA summer camp. In 2006, she choreographed the try-out dance for the Sachse Cheerleading Squad as well as choreographed cheer dance routines for local competitive cheer companies from 2002-2007.
In 2007, Dusty wanted to expand her dance background in ballroom dancing learning both American and Latin styles. In 2008, Dusty decided to dedicate her focus on International Latin Ballroom on a competitive level under the coaching and mentoring of Sergey Korshunov and Michelle Hafle from Studio 22. She currently competes PRO/AM International Latin Open Scholarship with Sergey where she has placed in the top of her division both nationally and internationally. Some of her awards consist of 2009 Ohio Star DanceSport PRO/AM Bronze Finalist, 2010 Costa Rica Classic DanceSport Ballroom PRO/AM Open Champion, 2010 and 2011 Southwestern Invitational PRO/AM Open Champion, 2012 DanceSport Millennium Semi-Finalist.
In 2011, Dusty was chosen to be a part of the Dallas Vigilantes Dancers, the arena football team that played at American Airlines Center. In her one year of performing with the Dallas Vigilantes Dancers, she was the only rookie that choreographed part of a quarter break, performed on Good Morning Texas, and performed at the Dallas Cowboys Halloween Halftime Show. In February of 2012, Dusty was one of the dancers picked to dance at Mark Cuban/Usher Super Bowl Party. Recently, Dusty was selected as one of the dancers in an Ivan James music video, Brighter Day.
Dusty has been with MediFit Corporate Services, a nationally award winning company for 8 years and has been successfully managing employer health and fitness programs for the past 6 years. In 2006, Dusty’s health and wellness program was awarded the DFW Champions in Health Award by the Health Industry Council of North Texas. In 2012 she earned the Six Sources of Influence Award for most creative Structural Ability program for behavior change. Within MediFit, Dusty was selected to be a part of the nationally recognized Group Fitness team that designed group fitness programs nation-wide. MediFit gave Dusty the opportunity to bring her two passions of dance and fitness together to create a program called Dance Xperience which was offered to MediFit-managed locations nation-wide.
Dusty has a strong passion for raising awareness and education on the ongoing health related issues that our country faces today. Along with designing and implementing health and fitness programs for adults she plans to have a greater focus on kids’ physical activity in the efforts to fight childhood obesity. Bringing these two passions together is a vision she has strived to see for many years and is now becoming a reality.
